Pitchfork fans and indie music enthusiasts everywhere had their minds blown earlier this month with the grand release of their newest service, Pitchfork Advance. This feature offers a first look at albums before their release, allowing users to stream albums in their entirety before they are due to hit the streets. There’s no doubt that this is way cooler than scouring the Internet for leaks.
The folks at Pitchfork are aiming to not only allow everyday people to stream great new tunes before they are released, but to create (or rather, recreate) that classic vinyl experience; incorporating album artwork, track listings and lyrics, credits and more. ”In the vinyl and CD eras, album packaging was considered an extension of the music,” said Ryan Schreiber, founder and CEO of the company. “The artwork, lyric inserts, and credits added another dimension that mp3s haven’t replicated. Our hope is to bring that experience online.”
Experiencing intimacy with one’s music is an area where Pitchfork and TuneUp have quite a lot in common. We value music as well as having a certain kind of awareness and involvement with it – that’s why TuneUp was created to make sure all your tracks have the correct album artwork, artist and track names, and genres. And then there’s Tuniverse. With Tuniverse, the free music discovery service within TuneUp, you have instant access to song lyrics, artist bios, music videos, and even news and merchandise! There are also personalized concert alerts based on the music in your library, so you never have to miss out on seeing your favorites live.
With great services like Pitchfork Advance and Tuniverse, it’s just a little bit easier to get the most out of the music you love.
